Wow! 2008 is here. It seems like yesterday we were all worrying about our computers and the country shutting down with Y2K. Just as the worst did not happen then, I believe all the bad press about the real estate market will ultimately be proven wrong. Looking back through history real estate has been and will continue to be a great investment.

All three associations you belong to (NAR, NCAR & BCAR) will be working hard to get that message out across the country, state and Brunswick County. Let’s not forget that we live and work in one of the most desirable location s on the East Coast. Thousands upon thousands visit our coast every year and they all have the same dream; “I wish we could have our own place here.” that is our challenge. How to make that dream a reality.

“Our theme this year is “The Power of Team.”

Your leadership team, along with your committee chairs, have a very aggressive agenda for 2008. Leigh Hansen (Public Relations) will be busy promoting the value of a REALTOR in the real estate transaction and make sure our members are given credit for all they do throughout our community. Chris Bryan (MLS) will continue to polish our MLS system and keep us up to date with all the IT changes. Suzanne Prince (RPAC/Legislative) will keep us abreast of any issues upcoming and build our political strength after our overwhelming victory against the Transfer Tax last November. Brad Vanderburg will be busy with all our educational and professional growth opportunities. Jimmy Pendergrass will have his hands full planning our General Membership Meetings, making sure that are both fun and have value. I have great confidence in all our Committee Chairs and committee members, BOD members as well as our elected officers (President Elect Shannon Hill, Vice President Mary Ann McCarthy and Treasurer Denise Kinney).

Lets not forget the one rather large item and that’s our brand new Association headquarters, 101 Stone Chimney Road. What a magnificent structure. BCAR is once again the talk of the state with the completion of our facility. The building is already having a presence in the county with many reservations on the books, we hope to have a profitable first year.

BCAR continues to set the standard for others to follow. I am so proud to represent our association across the state.

Your entire leadership team is fired up and excited about this coming year. We all look forward to serving you, our members, and providing the best value and service possible.

Here’s to a great and profitable 2008.

Thanks for your support.

Text Box: Members speak about education
Text Box: One word used to frequently describe REALTORS is BUSY. Our schedules seem to take on a life of their own, and we are almost always juggling client visits, paperwork, telephone calls, duty hours, financing processes, and myriad of other business issues. And add to that- - - our personal lives!  No wonder we get tired.

Dear Polly:

I’ve been working with a couple for the last few weeks—showing them properties all over town.  I just found out today that they are working with a competing firm as well.  What should I do?  They are my buyers.
