LEGISLATURE OVERRIDES VETO OF REGULATORY REFORM BILL
This week, the NC House voted to override Gov. Beverly Perdue’s veto of
Senate Bill 781
(Regulatory Reform Act of 2011),
sponsored by Senators David Rouzer (R-Johnston) and
Harry Brown (R-Onslow). The NCAR Government Affairs team has
worked closely with allies on this bill because it’s critical to making the
regulatory process less burdensome as the process currently stifles economic
development in the state. The NC Senate voted unanimously to override
the veto a couple of weeks ago and 10 democrats sided with all but one
republican to override the Governor’s objections.
Congressional, NC House & Senate Redistricting
State lawmakers approved legislative and Congressional district maps this
week, which have been drafted by and favor Republicans. The maps do
not require the Governor’s signature but will still have to be approved by a
federal court or attorneys at the U.S. Justice Department to ensure
compliance with the Voting Rights Act. Democrats are also likely to take the
maps to court because they disagree with how the maps addressed black
populations. Both our congressional districts and house and senate districts
are not favorable for Brunswick County or coastal southeastern NC. We will
loose some of our political strength.

President's
Message
Pete Frandano
I hope you had a great July!
Given we
are wrapping up the "dog days of summer", please humor me as I share with
you a few of my favorite quotes. I hope you find a nugget or two in here
that helps you in some way, either in your business or your personal life:
"Run when
you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up. "
Dean Karnazes - Endurance Athlete and Author of the Book "Ultramarathon
Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner"
"You have
to believe in yourself."
Sun Tzu
"And in
the end it is not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your
years."
Abraham
Lincoln
"Strength
lies in differences, not in similarities. Our ultimate freedom is the right
and power to decide how anybody or anything outside ourselves will affect
us."
Stephen R. Covey – Author of "The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People"
"Success
is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that
counts."
Winston
Churchill
"My
great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content
with your failure."
Abraham
Lincoln
"I
don't measure a man's success by how high he climbs but how high he bounces
when he hits bottom."
George S. Patton
"Each generation goes further than the generation preceding it because it
stands on the shoulders of that generation…"
Ronald Reagan
I hope you
have a great August!
Thank you
for helping our Association continue Seizing the Day and turning Today’s
Challenges into Tomorrow’s Opportunities.

Where Elegance Meets Versatility…
During the month of July, 101 Stone Chimney
Place hosted two weddings, a
political event, a POA meeting and a business luncheon. Last year there were
no events held in the banquet center in July. In case you did not know, July
is the most active time of year for vacations and this is why most event
locations have little or a minimum amount of events.
The first week of August the banquet
center held two Brunswick County School events. 101 Stone Chimney Place
hosted the North Brunswick Chamber Business After Hours and mini trade show.
This was a first of its kind for the North Brunswick Chamber and the members
were very pleased with the facility and the networking opportunities they
received.
UPCOMING EVENTS!
In August the upcoming events will be Virginia Williamson
School event, Brunswick County Schools will have two additional events here
and we have one wedding.
BCAR will have new member orientation, committee meetings and
board meeting.
BCAR’s next General Membership Meeting
will be held August 18. The dunking booth will be back by popular demand.
The social will be from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm and during this time the
attendees can dunk their favorite members to help raise funds for RPAC. Beer
and wine will also be provided during this time. Dinner will be available at
5:00 pm.
The BCAR General Membership Meeting program will start at
6:00 pm. The presenters are Jim Bradshaw, Director for the Brunswick County
Economic Development and Dr. William "Woody" Hall, UNCW Professor "Local
Economics Guru".
There will be several BCAR Bylaws Votes.

Mark your calendars! The Facilities Committee will be hosting
its first Brunswick County Holiday Show on November 19 and 20.
The event is being co-hosted by the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce.
This show will feature local artist arts, crafts and food. If you know of
anyone that is interested in being a vendor please provide them with the
vendor application.
If you need more information about this event please contact Sabrena
Reinhardt at
